Amy Lee is an American singer-songwriter and classically trained pianist. She is the co-founder and lead singer of the rock band Evanescence. She has performed collaborations with artists such as Seether, Korn, and David Hodges. Amy was named the #1 Hottest Chick in Hard Rock for Revolver magazine’s 2011 annual issue, where she appeared on the cover. In 2012, she won the Best Vocalist honor at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards.
Joan Jett is an American rock guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer, and occasional actress. She is best known for her work with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and the Runaways. Songs most people know of hers are “Cherry Bomb” and “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.” The latter, was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 from March 20 to May 1, in 1982. Joan Jett is known as the Godmother of Punk and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.
Lzzy Hale, born as Elizabeth Mae Hale, is the lead rhythm guitarist and frontwoman of the American hard rock band Halestorm. During a recent interview, Hale was asked what the stupidest thing she has done is, and she said, "There was one time… And hence the pants inside joke we have right now. There's something about a bottle of tequila that… and this has only happened to me three times in my life… but every time that I share a bottle of tequila with somebody, I do end up misplacing my pants. Now, I don't get naked, like the song says, but I will somehow lose my pants and place them somewhere during the night, whether that be… once it was in the refrigerator… I woke up and my pants were in the refrigerator. The next time they were stuffed under a bunk mattress. And then the third time they were in somebody else's bag. I think it was my brother's backpack."
Sharon den Adel is a singer and composer, best known as the lead singer of Dutch symphonic metal/rock band Within Temptation. She has played in bands since she was only 14, giving her more than 25 years of experience. She has the sound of a classically trained singer, but she is mostly self-taught.
Melissa Auf der Maur is a Canadian musician, singer-songwriter, photographer and actress. She formed the indie rock band Tinker while in college and was later recruited as the bassist for American alternative rock band Hole. Melissa was briefly a part of The Smashing Pumpkins in 2002 and then began her solo career soon after. She is regarded as one of alternative rock’s most celebrated female musicians.
Taylor Momsen is an American actress and musician. She is known from playing the role of Jenny Humphrey on “Gossip Girl” and Cindy Lou Who in “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” She now fronts the rock band The Pretty Reckless. Who would have thought little Cindy Lou Who would grow up to be a rock goddess?
Wendy O. Williams was an American singer-songwriter and actress. She was the lead singer of the punk rock band Plasmatics. Her infamous stage theatrics included near nudity, chain-sawing guitars, and blowing up equipment. She later went solo and released three albums. Williams was dubbed “The Queen of Shock Rock” and was widely considered the most controversial and radical female singer of her day.
Kim Gordon is an American musician who is best known for being the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist of the alternative rock band Sonic Youth. Gordon formed Sonic Youth with Thurston Moore in 1981. She has collaborated with people such as Ikue Mori, DJ Olive, Yoko Ono, Courtney Love, Raymond Pettibon, and William Winant.
Emily Armstrong and Siouxsie Medley have been rocking together since they were 15, when they started the American hard rock band Dead Sara. Armstrong is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist. Medley is the guitarist. Medley is the only female guitarist ever named as a guitarist of the year finalist in Loudwire’s yearly awards. The band has made appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Vampire Diaries, and Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Orianthi is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist. She won the award of “Breakthrough Guitarist of the Year” in 2010 from Guitar International magazine. She was also named one of the 12 Greatest Female Electric Guitarists in 2009, by Elle magazine. Orianthi has been in bands since she was 14 and she performed in her first stage show for Steve Vai at 15 years old. She has played with artists such as Michael Jackson, Carlos Santana, and Alice Cooper.
Mlny Parsonz is a singer and bassist who is best known from her vocals and bass in the American hard rock band Royal Thunder. In Royal Thunder’s album ‘Crooked Doors’, she sings about her experience in and escaping from a Christian cult. She also sings about her break up from her husband, also a Royal Thunder member. The lyrics from the album are heart breaking and have been compared to Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumors’ by Stereogum.
Emma Anzai is the founding bassist of Australian hard rock band Sick Puppies. Anzai’s unique bass style has earned her the nickname “the female flea;” a nod to Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. She says her playing style is more about melody and rhythm, and driven by emotion.
Lita Ford is a British-American rock guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. She was the lead guitarist for The Runaways before she went for a solo career in the 1980’s. Ford was only 16 years old when she was recruited to join the all-female band The Runaways.
Siouxsie Sioux, born Susan Janet Ballion, is an English singer, songwriter, and producer. She is best known for being the lead singer of the rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. Allmusic named Siouxsie as “one of the most influential British singers of the rock era.” In her youth she followed the Sex Pistols regularly with her friend and she became known in the London club scene for her glam, fetish and bondage attire, which later became part of punk fashion.
Kristin May is the lead singer of the rock band Flyleaf. Before joining Flyleaf in 2012, she was the lead singer of the band Vedera, where she sang, played the piano and the guitar. When Kristin May replaced Lacey Sturm in Flyleaf, many fans were unsure about her, but after seeing the explosive high energy she brings on stage, she eased the skeptics in the crowd.
Carina Round is a British singer-songwriter, who hones some purely beautiful and heavenly pipes. She has added her vocals to countless projects and released her own solo albums. Maynard James Keenan picked her up to be his co-vocalist on the Puscifer 2011 album ‘Conditions of My Parole’. Carina is a versatile musician whose music transcends genres.
Korey Cooper and Jen Ledger are in the Christian rock band Skillet. Korey is the keyboardist, guitarist, and backing vocals for the band. Jen is the drummer and co-vocalist. Skillet has released 9 albums, two receiving Grammy nominations: Collide and Comatose. Awake has been certified Platinum and Comatose certified Gold.
Lacey Strum is an American singer-songwriter. She is the co-founder and former lead singer of the hard rock band Flyleaf. Strum received Grammy nominations for her work with Third Day, on “Born Again”. She also recorded a song, “Heavy Prey”, for the Underworld: Awakening soundtrack.
