According to Billboard, Beyoncé is thiscose to singing on to play Glinda the Good Witch in NBC’s upcoming live televised production of “The Wiz”.
Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah are already signed on to play parts in the upcoming production, but getting Queen Bea to sign on would certainly help grab a bigger audience for the show. Mary J. Blige will be playing the Wicked Witch of the West and Queen Latifah will be the Wizard.
Beyoncé is already comfortable wearing a crown, obviously with a nickname like Queen Bey, so why not slip on Glinda’s crown? Several outlets are saying the role of Glinda has also been offered to Uzo Aduba, from “Orange Is The New Black”, who has a Broadway background.
No matter who picks up the role, they will have some huge shoes to fill. The role was originally played by Dee Dee Bridgewater in “The Wiz” 1975 Broadway debut and performed by Lena Home in the 1978 movie. Other big actors who stared in the film include Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
NBC is collaborating with Cirque du Soleil on “The Wiz,” and is also staging a Broadway revival of the show for the 2016-2017 season. Its live version is slated to run on the network on December 3.
