Ever since Wonder Woman became a massive hit and its sequel Wonder Woman 1984 could not quite match up to the success of the first film, the future of Wonder Woman 3 has been stuck in limbo. Looks like there could be some progress.
After months of uncertainty following the cancellation of Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman 3, James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, broke some big news recently. It has now been confirmed that a new Wonder Woman film is in the works and Diana Prince is all set to make a comeback in the refreshed DC Universe. Whether the character will still be played by Gal Gadot or not is not confirmed yet. However, in a recent interview, Gunn spoke about Wonder Woman saying: “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now.” Gunn was actually speaking about a new Superman movie starring David Corenswet.
He addressed four DC universe characters: Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman when he expained: “I wouldn’t say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we’re dealing with the other two.”
What did James Gunn say about Superman?
However, most of his comments were focused on the new Superman film. He said, “People are looking for heroes right now. I think he’s the right Superman because he is a character that stands for something that is solid, stands for basic human morals, basic human integrity, basic belief in protecting others and protecting the weak being good to people and being honest. People are looking for heroes right now. They are looking for values of goodness, looking for people who are good and decent human beings. And Superman is that.”
Will Gal Gadot not be in Wonder Woman 3?
While Gunn or anyone from DC is yet to provide concrete details about the next Wonder Woman film, this is still the first major update about the film since Wonder Woman 1984, which didn’t quite meet expectations when compared to the 2017 film, Wonder Woman directed by Jenkins. While the film was partly affected due to a pandemic-related hybrid release, Gadot has since been entangled in many controversies over her stand and comments about the Israel-Palestine war.
