From creating highlight videos from photos and videos to adding custom text, here are the new features coming to the Google Photos app.
Google Photos, the gallery app preinstalled on most Android phones, is getting a bunch of new features to make video editing easier. The tech giant also unveiled a redesigned, easy-to-use video editor for both Android and iOS. From redesigned video editor to adding music and text, here’s a quick look at the features coming to Google Photos.
In a post, Google said the new video editor features a universal timeline that supports multi-clip editing and storytelling, and an adaptive canvas that makes it easier to edit videos. Google Photos also received a new feature that lets you create “shareable highlight videos” using templates. Currently rolling out on Android, these templates come with “pre-set formats with built-in music, text and cuts synced to a soundtrack.”
Simply pick a template, choose the photos and videos you want to include, and Google Photos will automatically generate a video with music that you can share with others. To do so, head over to the Create tab and tap on the option named “highlight video”. Google says it will also add more templates in the future, but hasn’t specified when.
The ability to create highlight videos from photos and videos is really handy, as users previously had to use video editors like Capcut to do so. Another new feature is the ability to add a soundtrack to highlight videos. This feature is available on both Android and iOS. Google Photos users on Android will also have the option to add customised text with colours, fonts and backgrounds to their highlight videos.
Google says all the aforementioned features are currently rolling out for Google Photos users on Android and iOS, so it may take some time before they are available for your account.
