Singer and actor Jennifer Lopez has opened about the emotional period after her divorce from Ben Affleck. Finally speaking about what she really went through and how she’s doing now, Jennifer spoke honestly about that period in a recent interview with Good Morning America.
Lopez shared that she chose to step away from work and public life for nearly a year after their separation was finalized in January 2025.
For Jennifer, the end of the marriage meant taking time to reflect. “I had to stop everything. I took a year off. I cancelled tours and I just decided to just be and sit with what had happened without running away from it. No work, no new relationships — just time to sit with it,” she said during the interview.
Instead of jumping back into projects or new relationships, Jennifer said she decided to focus on understanding herself and explained that the break was not just about rest but about confronting the situation honestly.
During that time, Lopez said her children became the centre of her life and staying home with them helped her keep perspective during a time of personal change.
Reflecting on this new phase of life, Jennifer Lopez said, “I’m in my happy era. It feels really good.” But she further added, “I didn’t really know what that felt like since I was in my early 20s, and even before that, I always had a boyfriend. There was always someone in my life, and so many other things that I felt were out of my control.”
Sharing about if she’s back at dating, she jokingly shared, “God forbid. I don’t want to ruin anything. It’s so nice right now. I’m so happy. And that was a scary thing for me when I was younger, I was always afraid to be alone.”
Reflecting on who she’s today, she shared, “I’m a mom of graduates this year heading to college. I’m a showgirl, an entertainer, an actor, and an entrepreneur. I’m happy. I’m healthy. I’m grateful. That’s who I am today. And I’m surrounded by love, which is the best part.”
Now back to performing, she says she feels stronger and more independent. She has returned to the stage with her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace and continues to focus on her career and family.
